Aquatic Exercise
Aquatic Exercise is a proven method to help you improve your health in a buoyant and resistive environment that is safe and fun. It is popular for people who cannot, or prefer not to, exercise on land and for those who want to cross-train in diverse environments. In Aquatic Exercise, we take advantage of water’s intrinsic characteristic wherein it “… acts like a liquid weight machine, providing resistance in functional ranges of motion for daily living while the support of buoyancy reduces impact” (Sanders, ME. p. 429. Fitness Theory & Practice. 2002). Most exercises are done vertically, so swimming skills are not required. Shallow and deep water exercises are combined and flotation devices are used during deep water training. Aquatic Exercise improves cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, core stability and flexibility in a time-efficient way minus the risks of injury. Aquatic Exercise is especially beneficial for clients with arthritis, recovering from injuries, pregnant women, overweight, and the elderly.
